This week we’re introducing Alex and Ruby, owners of A Potter & Daughter Butchers …

Located inside the welcoming Harefield Farm Shop, A Potter and Daughter Butchers is a family-run business dedicated to providing high-quality, free-range meat with a personal touch. Headed up by Alex and supported by his daughter Ruby, this dynamic duo is passionate about their craft and about sharing the finest cuts of meat with their customers.

A Legacy of Butchery: Alex’s journey into butchery began at the age of 14 when he started working at his local butcher shop. His passion for sourcing and preparing quality meat was ignited, and it’s been at the heart of his career ever since. Even during the challenges of the COVID pandemic, when his previous business had to close, Alex continued to pursue his craft, butchering for Harefield Farm whenever needed.

When the opportunity arose to open a butcher shop alongside Harefield Farm, Alex seized it, and A Potter and Daughter Butchers was born.

Award-Winning Produce: The shop offers a wide range of fresh, free-range meats, but their standout product is their award-winning sausages, which have earned an impressive five awards in total. These sausages are a must-try for any meat lover, showcasing the exceptional quality and creativity that Alex and Ruby bring to their products.

A Family Affair: For Alex, A Potter and Daughter Butchers is more than just a business—it’s a chance to share his passion with the next generation. Training Ruby and passing on his skills has been one of his proudest achievements. "It’s important to me that this trade doesn’t die out," Alex shares.

Ruby is equally enthusiastic about her role in the business. "I love learning new skills and experimenting with recipes," she says. Her favourite sausage flavour? Pork, cheese, and Marmite—a unique combination that’s sure to spark curiosity!

A Personal Touch: What sets A Potter and Daughter Butchers apart is their dedication to customer service. Both Alex and Ruby love meeting new people and take pride in offering expert advice on how to cook their produce for the best results. They even share recipe ideas to inspire their customers to get creative in the kitchen.

Part of the Moss End Community: Being part of Moss End Garden Village has been a wonderful experience for Alex and Ruby, who joined the community in January 2025. They love the supportive community spirit among the traders and the diverse range of shops that make Moss End a special destination. "It’s an amazing community," Alex says. "Everyone helps each other, and it feels like being part of a big family."

A Fun Fact About Alex: When he’s not in the butcher shop, Alex has an unexpected hobby—he’s a white-collar boxer! He also lives by the advice passed down from his father: "Always be kind to everyone you meet and put your family first."
